Tomates y pimientos was the programme that proved that good cooking could be, as well as cheap and quick, very entertaining for a quiz. The veteran Mayra Gómez Kemp presented this original competition daily for Antena 3 Televisión. The quiz was between two teams, the tomatoes and the peppers, in which the two contestants worked as kitchen assistants to master chefs of great renown.
The challenge was to fill up a shopping basket with less than 1,000 pesetas and produce a 5-star meal in just 20 minutes. The imagination of both the contestants
and the chefs were in play. After preparing the dishes, which were made on the set in real time, it was the audience who tasted them and proclaimed the winner of the show, which was decided by voting.
It was thus shown that good cooking is not at odds with low prices and that good
recipes do not need hours of preparation.
Moreover, during the preparation of the dishes, the chefs explained how to do it step
by step, revealing some of the most safely guarded secrets of the master chefs. Mayra
Gómez Kemp gave good tips and recipes and some viewers called in to explain some of
the best and quickest recipes, for example how to make a delicious cheesecake in just
7 minutes. Tomates y pimientos showed that the imagination is a vital ingredient of cooking and that with it you can attain healthy, cheap and delicious meals. |
