Tu gran día was a show created for new artists, whatever their speciality, providing them with a stage from where they could show off their talents to the world. This programme was a direct spin-off of other celebrated slots on the same channel, TVE, such as Pasarela a la fama, Gente joven or Aplauso, from where many of today’s stars emerged. All of them contained the same spirit: to raise a platform so that the aspiring new stars could show off their talent.
There were different artistic disciplines such as Spanish song, easy listening, comedy, varieties or lyrical, but in some cases, it was the aspiring star themselves who suggested the type of show they wanted to perform, since the contest was open to all kinds of performers. As well as a stage, Tu gran día was a contest with prizes and, of course, an expert jury made up of professionals from the radio and press, the majority specialists in music, who contributed to creating public opinion from their own respective programmes. At the end of the programme, the jury gave points to each of the contestants so that a ranking was established. |
