Gestmusic was founded in 1985 by Josep Maria Mainat, Toni Cruz and Miguel Angel Pascual, at the time a successful trio of singers performing as ‘La Trinca’ since 1969. They created Gestmusic at a key moment in the Spanish audiovisual landscape, coinciding with arrival of private channels and the proliferation of regional channels as well.
Their first production for television was the musical show No passa res! (aka That’s alright!) for catalan pubcaster TV3. The show was channel’s most watched with 1.500.000 viewers and, following its success, won the Spanish TV Awards “Ondas”, the most outstanding and prestigious media awards established in Spain. Furthermore, TV3 was the only regional channel getting an award that year.
One year later the show was upgraded and broadcast on national pubcaster Television Española (TVE), with a spanish version called Tariro, Tariro (aka Cha Chan-Cha Chan). One year later the show won the Ondas TV Award again.
The advent of private channels in Spain delivered Gestmusic the opportunity to work on many projects, many of which obtained great success. Gestmusic became one of the leading production companies in the territory producing a total of 100 formats for national and regional channels, such as Martian Chronicles, Stars in their eyes, Soundmix show, Wipeout!, National Parody, It only hurst when I laugh, Up the Barça, Those crazy little ones, Catchphrase, Don’t forget your toothbrush, Ready Steady Cook, Love at first sight, Your turn today, the Bridge, The debate of the century, Home Videos, The funny side, Vídeos Vídeos or Do you remember that song?.
In 1994, Endemol acquired a 60% share of Gestmusic and the company was renamed Gestmusic Endemol. In 2000, Endemol acquired 100% of shares and Josep Maria Mainat and Toni Cruz run the company as general managers.
