Cita con Apeles

The success of the polemical Father Apeles in the debates of ‘Moros y cristianos’ and his acid comments in the summer programme ‘El puente’,led him, in 1997, to present a programme on Telecinco for the first time.

As co-presenter he had Rociíto, who also made her debut in presenting programmes. It was a production based on a television show called “It’s your turn”, an Endemol format, which had previously triumphed in several European countries.

Everyone who had something to say or show came to the programme and there were two possible ways of doing so: a stage and a chair. If the contestant had something to say, whether it was a complaint, a speech in favour of a political idea or reciting poetry, they sat on a chair and the studio audience, by means of a remote control, decided if they wanted to continue listening or not. When the negative vote was more than 50%, the chair was then moved along a rail and the orator was thrown out of the competition.

Another contestant automatically replaced the previous one and addressed the audience.

In the case of the stage, it was generally taken up by people wanting to sing while others danced or performed magic. In this case the audience decided by remote control when the curtain should fall according to the interest in the performance. In this way, the winners were those who lasted the longest depending on the audience’s blessing.
