Ruïna total

In 1992 Gestmusic gave a debut in Spain to the programme ‘Lose a million’ by the British production company Action Time, a creation of Andrew O’Connor, Toby Freeman and Stephen Leahy. ‘Ruïna total’, as it was called in its versions for TV3 and Canal 9, and ‘Gezurra nagusi’, for ETB 1.

This original show, which was broadcast Mondays to Friday, was an anti-quiz where the prize of a trip was awarded to the contestant capable of losing, without a care, the princely sum of 500 million pesetas. To achieve this they had to go to great pains to do the tests of skill proposed by the programme as badly as possible and to answer the questions even more poorly. Only through their total ruin could the contestant win the prize: a trip to an exotic country.

It sounds easy, but to make so much money disappear and do everything so badly was no easy task in just 30 minutes. Heading such a ruinous show was Emilià Carrilla for TV3, Ximo Rovira for Canal 9 and José Felipe Auzmendi for ETB 1.
